Berkeley: Trade and Climate Justice

How Corporate-Driven Trade Deals Undermine Ambitious Climate Action — and What We Can Do About It During the APEC Summit & Beyond

Where: University of California, Berkeley, Tilden Room.
When: November 8, 2023. 7:30 – 8:30 pm PT.

This November, world leaders will gather in San Francisco for the Asia-Pacific Economic Forum (APEC), where they hope to announce the conclusion of large parts of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) agreement. IPEF is a new trade pact that would set rules governing roughly 40% of the global economy, with potentially dramatic impacts on the future of climate action.

Ahead of the APEC summit, join the California Trade Justice Coalition and other partners for a multigenerational panel of experts about the ongoing conflict between existing corporate-driven trade policy and ambitious climate action; the role IPEF can play in exacerbating or ameliorating climate catastrophe; and the disproportionate impacts on communities of color in the Bay Area and around the globe.

During the event, attendees will also learn about opportunities during the APEC summit to highlight the urgency of climate action and the need for more voices at the table from BIPOC communities.
